We are pleased to invite you to our exclusive one-day workshop designed for Palo Alto Networks practitioners to learn about advanced data plane troubleshooting. The data plane is a core component of the NGFWs and sometimes users run into instances where the data plane gets congested, there are performance issues, and just straight up problems. With this session being hosted by Arun Sharma, Arun will give us some hands on experience and methods to identify root issues when related to the data plane and how to go about taking care of them. There will be a more detailed agenda shared shortly.
Who should attend?
This workshop is intended for engineers and administrators of the NGFW that maintain the overall performance of the system. Anyone who has had to work with what they've had to do for keeping the data plane running optimally should attend.
Arun Sharma is a Senior Technical Support Engineer with Palo Alto Networks and has been working with them for three and a half years now. Arun is based out of Singapore with product specializations in Strata, Remote Access, and ID Management.
This event will be recorded and posted to LIVEcommunity's YouTube channel after the completion of the event.
The event's page will have the videos of the different topics embedded right here as well as a link to any presentations from the event as well for your download.
In this series of videos, we welcome Arun Sharma, a Senior Technical Support Engineer for Palo Alto Networks, we get an overview on how to diagnose, identify, and fix issues with high data plane utilization on the next generation firewalls (NGFWs).
In part one, Arun Sharma introduces us how to do advanced troubleshooting of the data plane in a next generation firewall (NGFW). During this first video, he goes into collectin basic data as well as how important it is to have correct port and application configuration in your policies.
During part two, Arun Sharma continues to show us how to perform advanced troubleshooting of the data plane in a NGFW. During this second video, Arun goes into details about the Session Browser, why sessions may have no logs to them, and then spends a good amount of time on data plane counters. After that, we get an introduction to PCAPS and packet diagnostics.
For part three, Arun Sharma expands on the process of working with PCAPs and packet analysis by going into what information is available at the debug level of logs. With flow basic feature, Arun explains how it can be used, but warns about how CPU intensive it can be, so use flow basic with caution.
Finally, in part four, Arun Sharma wraps everything up with how to handle issues with high data plane CPU consumption. He goes over what it means, how to debug the issue, and then wraps up by expanding on how high buffer and descriptor usage can cause problems even if the data plane CPU isn't being highly consumed.
